Simon: First day of children’s camp today, and it began with us not really knowing what we were going to do. But God is good, he gave us clear planning heads over an extended breakfast and the ideas came together well.
Just over 20 children came (we expect 35 tomorrow) and we played games, sang songs, told story of lost sheep, created individual and group craft and generally had a great day. It is strange to think that in England we sign in children with every detail, we plan every minute, we believe we have to keep children completely focused for all of the time... here they turn up, they join in, they wait, they have lunch, they discuss, they create, they wander home... much simpler and very refreshing. And it was sunny – and you had rain in Pompey – yay!
This evening, after team communion and tea we had another fire-camp. This time attended by children from the camp, young people from football and some old ladies. More songs, and then the team performed The Cross sketch (it was our sin that nailed Jesus to the cross) and I followed this with a short evangelistic talk. The day finished with us generating the plan for day 2: prayer and humility (from Luke 18)
Hannah: Hello all, long time no see. It was great to hear the Church fully behind us. We have had a great few days. Had a chance to share my testimony in the service, it was so much fun as I was sharing what God has done and is doing in my life. I haven’t seen a bear yet, but we’re going bear-finding on Saturday!
The rain has turned into sun, amen. I was really worried about the Kids Camp, but I stopped myself, and as always our God was gracious and it was fab. A few kids started to run off at one point but Kids Camp wouldn’t be the same without these challenges. Miss you all, and I also miss Narnia! And see you soon.
