Day 9 – July 11

Simon: Today was a really good day and a very busy day! Woke up to get ready for our first service of the day at Sanpetru, a nearby town where Vali is the Pastor (the one who visited the orphanages with us) and where Sami lives. The first half hour of the service was purely in Romanian (except for the odd song number) so if felt strange to begin with... But Hannah, Lisa, Amy and Kat did great performing two songs. Our new sketch ‘The Cross’, in which Rhiannon gets engaged, went really well, and again is was great to hear testimonies from Taz, Roger & Ioana. Before I preached the choir came forward. There were 15 in the choir (out of a local congregation of 28). I am now getting used to preaching with a translator, and Vali did a good job this morning.

After the service, we met many of the young adults in the church, many of whom helped to serve us a Romanian Meal. During this Hannah, Lisa and I disappeared to skype the church. After lunch we all went to Sami’s beautiful home-built house to relax, shower, sleep (or it my case to prepare the evening sermon!)

Brasov First Baptist Church was the most conservative and largest church we had been in. We were welcomed by many in the church and then worship began, again for 20 minutes or so it was only in Romanian. (Note to self, make sure you welcome visitors in own language at beginning of service). The large stage made it very easy to perform all our sketches and songs. A new sketch about humility got everyone smiling and thinking.

Amy, Lisa, Hannah and Steve all gave powerful testimonies and then I preached on the theme of humility.

After a meal provided by the Church we came back home to watch the World Cup Final. But after 30 minutes of effort we gave up trying to get a picture, and Rhiannon led prayers instead.

All in all a long day, but a good day (which is why this blog post is a bit late!)

Praise God
